Whats Happening to MakeWithTech?

I’ve been absent from this forum for much of this year, with the exception of a couple of recent videos.

Well, I’m back. Here is the status of MakeWithTech:

  • After considering the pros and cons, I have decided to keep models.makewithtech.com running.

  • All registered users have been provided free licenses, and the subscription services have been disabled. All services are free but will have some usage limits to keep costs under control.

We are actively transitioning Models by MakeWithTech to V2. This involves significant technical work, moving the software from Javascript/Vue 2 with Vuetify, which is end of life, to Javascript/Vue 3/PrimeVue/Tailwind.

Rest assured, the bugs that have been lingering will be addressed, and we have a host of new features in the pipeline. There’s a lot to look forward to!

  • The site will be expanded to support sharing models that are not based on OpenSCAD

  • Support for “BuyMeACoffee” will continue so Creators can monetize their models.

  • Support for ads and sponsorships are under development to underwrite the site’s costs instead of user subscriptions.

  • We are developing a budget to promote the site, and kick-start increased usage

In addition to Models by MakeWithTech, I will continue to support this forum, makewithtech.com, and the YouTube channel’s periodic videos covering new and exciting technologies at no cost to you. Recently, I have covered a number of the new low-cost diode-based laser cutters.

You can reach me directly at ishapiro at cogitations dot com.

All the best.

Wow, that’s a huge surprise! I assumed models.makewithtech was shut down months ago. I haven’t looked since your announcement that it will be shut down.

So the new models.mwt will support STL and other model formats. That’s great!

I enthusiastically support the ad-based revenue model, especially if the ads are maker-related. I will turn off ad blocking on your sites.

Looking forward to the new site content and videos~

Thank you for the note.

And a nice surprise at that. I also assumed that the site had shut down but will now renew my interest.
Thanks for all the hard work - having ads to help fund the site is no problem with me.

Glad you are back! Looking forward to seeing more vids!

I am getting a new 3d printer in about a week and will also be doing more videos about laser cutters/engravers. I want to help people understand when to use one tool vs another.

Hello Irv,
I have not be active in the forum, I have checked in to see what is happening, and not seen much. It will be great to see new videos. I think many of us old timers (both in age and 3D printing) have too many channels and things to do to stay up with it all. Look forward to your new content
