Ender5r, thanks for the input. I’m looking at that one now. I’m trying to check measurements to see if I can purchase stock rods and lead screws and not have to cut. I also like the fact that it has only 1 printed part. I don’t think I would try to get it milled. I’m going to try and get a BOM together and determine costs.
I look forward to seeing what costs you come up with.
I came up with $112 but that was for 3 new nema 42-23 stepper motors at $23 for the three. I have done a swap and have an extra nema 42-34 so that will lower it to $89. I have a stock Ender 5 that was given to me, so may try that on this. I still need to go through the parts and make sure I have everything correct.
Here is the list if you want to take a look. I left the motors in for now

Wow, thanks. Very good info.
I may just order everything from Amazon and have it ready to go. I always like to have a project ready in the wings. Now I have 4 containers on the way that will become filament dry boxes and I’m getting a Pi setup for Octoprint for the new Ender 5. Keeps me from chasing wild women (not that I could catch any)
I’m currently contemplating how to design a filement spool container that incorporates a way to create a vacuum sealed environment. I couldn’t actually find any on thingiverse, which surprised me.
I just ordered all of the parts from Amazon, except the silly motor mount. I had it in the cart, but noticed it may be December before it got here, so got the same thing on e-bay for the same price and it will be here Saturday, the rest will be here by Thursday.
If you give me a couple of minutes. I’ll post what I made from three different sources for a sealed filament dry box.
Thingiverse seems to be even worse than normal, but take a look at this Rubbermaid Drybox remix by woodwaker - Thingiverse
Nice. Just to be certain, it’s not a vacuum box, right?
No, its just a sealed box to keep dry filament dry. I also have a dryer that I made. This keeps it dry while printing and should stay dry for quite a while with the plug
Looks like my 40 Euro edition gone crazy

Aha. I do like how he printed his own spacer rings so he didn’t have to modify the trays.
Well all,
It has been a long time since I addressed this, but I have finished the Dual Z conversion. This is a project that seemed to have no end. Ender 5 SUPER dual z axis by woodwaker - Thingiverse
I just got carried away, added 90 mm to the front to back frame of the printer, so that I could have plenty of room for my OmniaDrop direct drive. I’m not sure how much it helped, but it is very solid now. Let me know what you think.
Nicely done my friend, nicely done indeed. I have been pondering the idea of contacting a Creality vendor & telling them my Z axis got damaged: how much for a replacement?
Thanks. This was my third or 4th attempt. I got it to work, but could not access the entire print bed. Since this has become my life in retirement, I kept working on it until I was happy. Now on to other mods. Take a look at the latest New wiring for the OmniaDrop - YouTube
So now you’re a tool… er, I mean, a multi-tool… er, I mean an exchangeable multi-tool?
Hello all, This has been a long term project, but have finally come to the end, or close to it. I have converted two of my Ender 5 units to dual Z axis and replace the motion system with an ExoSlide. Here is the first in a series of you-tube videos on the conversion. Ender 5 Dual Z Mod Part 1 - YouTube
I have also updated my Thingiverse listing to include the screen mounting and filament feed system Ender 5 SUPER dual z axis by woodwaker - Thingiverse
Let me know your thoughts
Well done Dave. I have an observation & a couple of questions:
Observation: it looks as though you didn’t really need the extra 90 mm extension on the Ender 5’s. It seems that there is more room at the front than is strictly necessary.
Question 1: what kind of clips are you using to hold down the print bed & where did you get them?
Question 2: I see you’re using an induction or capacitive ABL. How are you getting that to work with a glass bed? BTW, I just got 1 of those Creality glass beds with the mystery coating on it. So far it’s working quite well.
You are probably correct on the extra front spacing, but the OmniaDrop needs a lot of room in the front, the back is where I could maybe downsize. If I pull the carriage all the way froward it will hit the fan will hit one of the bars. The clips I ordered on Amazon are no longer listed, but do a search for these “Picture Photo Frame Metal Spring Turn Clip Hanger”. I found a large number of listings for about $10 for 100. Get more than you need as some will disappear. I’m using the TH3D Ezabl. It works well with glass, plastic, about any bed type, you can adjust the sensitivity, and the Z offset.
