Too bad. I asked because there is a way to print colour (hah, I did it again) lithos. The litho itself is still just white filament; the same as what you’ve been doing. But, some litho sites, itslitho being one, offer the feature of printing a colour pattern onto plain paper. The pattern corresponds to the colors in the original photo. You take the printed paper and place it behind the litho. When a light shines through, the colors on the paper become part of the litho image, making it look like it’s a color litho.
That sounds interesting. Wouldn’t you need a colour negative?
I don’t think so. Itslitho takes your color photo and uses it to create the pattern. Here’s an article on doing it: https://www.instructables.com/Lithophane-in-Color/. And here’s a video: color lithophane - Search Videos
Now, THIS is a litho lamp!! Color Lithophane Lamp - YouTube
The files on thingiverse: YouTube
I can’t believe how complicated someone could make a lamp. I would surely not hire him to design anything for me. I’m not even that impressed with the results. I like my lamp much better.
I do thank you for showing me the link. It was very interesting.
As much as anything, I think that link shows what can be done with 3D printing. Not that the capabilities should be used to make that lamp (although, let’s face it, one of the biggest features of 3D printing is the ability to make what you want, without regard to the opinions of others so, from that perspective, good on him).
Completely 3D Printed Full Color Lithophanes - YouTube is an interesting video using only filament for colour printing. I guess they make filament that is cyan magenta and yellow just for doing this. Lithophane maker web site seems to have all the instructions.
I saw that video a little while ago. I didn’t post about it because, to me, it seems like an awful lot of work to get something you can get in a much easier way.
I agree. It was just interesting that a 3d printer could actually do that. I’m not tempted yet to try it.
Not surprising, given your objection to wasting filament on purge towers
You are so right. Wasting filament on purge towers that weigh more than what you are printing doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.
