Cant follow your tutorial on FreeCad

Yes, and body and did see column but they were blacked out and unusable. That is where my problem is , did I miss something else or is there that much difference between .18 and .19?

.18 would be capable of doing standard things like that, but it’s highly recommended to use .19 now. There’s a huge difference, since there’s been hundreds of bug fixes since the last .18 release.

I agree with him

0.19 already got a feature freeze. So currently there are tons of bugfixes happening every day. Release is planned for March.

One of the last added features added are the helix extrusion and pocketing. So you can now create screws/nut type connections from within Part Design, which is very nice.

In video he turns the axis on the triangle then expands it wider. I can’t get it to go sideways in order to expand it. I don’t even see the 3 way axis showing like in video. I haven’t done this kind of work since HSchool Mechanical Drawing. FreeCAD for Beginners | 3d Printing | Basics video … I get to 22:22 and then bingo, I’m lost.

Ok got past the previous problem but now my body disappears when I click on the PAD button, I’m left with only the axis showing on screen. What am I doing wrong.

This is the index card box??

RIGHT! Have it on screen and go to task and click PAD and boom it’s gone, not on screen, no triangle or nothing.

OK, I think you’re missing a couple of steps and not quite following the video.

After you get the dimensions done of the sketch, it should turn completely green. Then, you have to close the sketch, using the Close button on the left.

The pane on the left should be on the Model View, and you should have Unnamed, Body, Origin, Sketch displayed. As DrVAX explains it, you next click on Body. Then, click on a line in the green sketch in the right-hand pane. After you click a line, the sketch should turn white, except for the line you clicked.

Now, click on the Tasks button in the left-hand pane (Combo View). Now, click on Pad. You should see a grey 3D solid.

I find it easier/quicker to close the sketch, ensure Sketch is selected in the Model View, then click on Tasks, then Pad.

I’ll let you take it from there.

Thanks Ender5r, after watching it for the umpteenth time and using my laptop for his direction and my desktop to work the FreeCad. I finally got it to work, what I missed was pushing CTRL button during some operations, which caused problems. Thanks for helping me with directions.

Yes, the CTRL key is needed in order to rotate the sketch, but you don’t need to rotate the sketch in order to PAD it.
